Peter V. Coffey, having practiced law for almost 60 years, is currently semi-retired.  Upon graduation from Albany Law School, where he was a member of law review, Mr. Coffey served as confidential law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Robert O. Brink.   

Mr. Coffey is past President of the Schenectady County Bar Association of which he is a member.  He is a member of the New York State Bar Association and as such he is: (a) a member of its Committee on Standards of Attorney Conduct (COSAC) which Committee reformed and revised the entire ethical standards of conduct for lawyers practicing in the State of New York; (b) a Member of the Executive Committee of the Real Estate Section of the New York State Bar and served as its past Chair; (c)  a member of its Committee on Professional Discipline; (d) a member of its Nominating Committee; and (e) Fellow of the New York State Bar Foundation ----- MaryAnn Saccomando Freedman Circle.  He is a Member of the American Bar Association and a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.  He is a member of the Capital District Women’s Bar Association.  Mr. Coffey is a former member and former Chair of the Third Department’s Committee on Professional Standards which supervises the ethical conduct of all lawyers in the Third Judicial Department.  Mr. Coffey has authored numerous articles on various legal topics concentrating in the areas of real property and attorney ethics and is also a lecturer on these topics—frequently having lectured the lawyers of the New York State Legislature at their annual Continuing Legal Education conference.   He is the Editor of “Attorney Escrow Accounts – Rules, Regulations and Related Topics” – N.Y.S. Bar Association 2001, 3rd Ed 2010, 4th Ed 2015, 5th Ed 2023.  He is past President of the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York and a recipient of its 2007 Law Day Award and of the New State Bar Association’s ProBono Service Award; Mr. Coffey was given the Attorney Professionalism Award by the New York State Bar Association in 2008 and thereafter the Professionalism Award from the New York State Bar Association Real Estate Section.  He is married to Mary Irish Coffey and the father of their six boys.
